Rosemary Champagne Obituary

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she passed away Oct. 30, 2012, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was born in Avondale, La., on Dec. 4, 1922, and at an early age moved with her parents and siblings to Baton Rouge in 1935 where her father was transferred from the Standard Oil Co. in Avondale to the refinery in Baton Rouge, now known as Exxon Mobil Corp. The Gaudet family settled in Standard Heights Subdivision in north Baton Rouge and she graduated from Istrouma High School when the school was located on the corner of Erie and Wenonah streets at that time. After graduation, she was later employed at Ethyl Corp. as a secretary and eventually retired from there. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Patrice and Robert Lang, Natchitoches, and Laurie Wilson, Denham Springs; sisters, Doris G. Hennan, Pearland, Texas, and Gloria G. Smith, Baton Rouge. Her grandchildren are Heather Martin, Ashley Wilson, Jeffrey Lang, Los Angeles, and Dawn Lang, Elm Grove; and great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kobe Martin. She was preceded in death by husband, Lee Roy Champagne; son, David D. Wilson, Jr.; sister, Louise G. Ferrara; brother, Louis F. Gaudet, Jr.; and parents, Nora L. and Louis F. Gaudet, Sr. Mrs. Champagne was a very kind, gentle and loving person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the care given Mrs. Champagne by the doctors, staff and employees of PACE Baton Rouge and St. Clare Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Champagne's wishes were that her body be donated to science.
