Regina Savago Obituary

Regina Elizabeth Savago, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Kingston, NY, passed away Thursday evening, November 15, 2012 at Ollie Steele Burden Manor. Born August 2, 1924 to Clarence and Elizabeth Robertson, she received a nursing degree at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY in 1943. It was her honor to care for many injured soldiers who had returned home from World War II. She met her husband of 63 years, 2nd Lt. U.S. Army Air Force Officer Joseph Savago, during that time, when he came to her home to pay his respects to her parents for the loss of their son, John Robertson, one of his Air Force colleagues. Over the course of their life together, they resided in Franklin Square, NY, South Salem, NY, Dennis, MA, Deland, FL, and Baton Rouge, LA. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Smith and husband Alvin, granddaughters Rachel and Hannah Smith, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Savago, her son, Joseph Savago, Jr., and siblings John, Patricia, and William. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at the St. Elizabeth Wing of Ollie Steele Burden Manor and The Hospice of Baton Rouge for the exquisite care they gave to Regina during the last season of her life. Visitation will be held Monday, November 19 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by Mass at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Greenoaks Cemetery.
