Ronald Ray "Ron" Hernandez, "Baby Brother" a resident and native of Baton Rouge passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Hospice of BR Butterfly Wing on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the age of 72. He was born on January 14, 1941. He joyfully embraced life with his many friends and family, who loved him dearly. He was an ex-Marine and a retired employee of Conoco of Lake Charles. During his life he resided in Sulphur, Pierre Part, and Toledo Bend where he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also loved dancing and playing golf. Ron's final wish was to be cremated and to have no funeral service. He did not want his friends and family to grieve over him because his parting relieved his hurt and pain in the later years of his life. Ron wished his friends and family would celebrate the joy, laughter and smiles he shared with them. His ashes will be put to rest at the Port Hudson National Cemetery where his immediate family will honor his final request. Ron is survived by two beloved stepchildren, Mikalyn "Boonie" Atkinson and Shane Blouin; two beloved sisters, Gertie Cutrer and Pearl Thompson; big brother, Ernie Hernandez and wife, Brenda. He also had many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Ron is preceded in death by his loving parents, Dugas and Enola Rodriguez Hernandez; two precious natural daughters, Renee and Leslie Hull; siblings, Shirley Zimmerle, Douglas Hernandez & wife Evelyn, and Gertrude Bergeron. The family wishes to thank all those who cared for and helped our baby brother in his time of need. Special thanks to his niece, Patty Thompson Byars, who took time out of her busy schedule to see to his comfort; his nephew Tommy Thompson, who cared for him at Toledo Bend; and all of the caring doctors and nurses at the BRGH and Hospice of BR Butterfly Wing. We wish to thank the staff and many friends of Whealdon Estates where he resided in the last part of his life. Share sympathies, condolences and memories at www.churchfuneralservices.com.

To Ernie and Brenda, I am so sorry to read of Ronnie's illness and passing. We all shared many hours laughing and partying at "Big Ernies' Place". But lost touch over the years, as we grew up and older. He was a pleasure to be around. I can understand, his not wanting us all to grieve. May he rest in peace.
