Garrett A. Mayon, Jr., 89, a resident of Carencro, died on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette at 2:45 a.m. He was born on September 15, 1923 in Plaquemine, LA. Garrett was a 1943 graduate of Plaquemine High School and a 1950 graduate of Louisiana State University earning a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was a Navy Veteran, serving during World War II from 1943 through 1946. Garrett married Lillie Marionneaux on January 9, 1946 until death did they part. He retired from Mobil Oil Company as Drilling Manager. Visiting will be at Wilbert Funeral Home in Plaquemine on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 11 a.m. until Rite of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. conducted by Deacon Sammy Collura. Interment will be in Grace Memorial Park. Garrett is survived by his wife, Lille Marionneaux Mayon of Carencro; two sons, Greg Mayon and wife Ramona Robertson Mayon of SanFranciso, CA, and Barry Mayon of Carencro; two daughters, Sharon Mayon Groves of Drexel, MO and Nita Mayon Bult and husband Thomas Bult of Lake Charles; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett Sr. and Fannie Lee McQuinton Mayon; two sisters, Regina Mayon Baker and Carmen Mayon Broussard, and brother, Charles Mayon.
