Janis Terrell Copenhaver passed away on April 25, 2013 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born April 19, 1930 in Leesville, Louisiana, Janis was a graduate of Louisiana State University, a member of Alpha Delta Pi, taught 3rd grade at Southdown Elementary, director of the kindergarten at Broadmoor United Methodist Daycare, then after raising two children, went back to work as Membership Secretary at Broadmoor United Methodist Church where she was a long-time member. She was an active member of PEO Chapter AA for over 40 years. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, Friday, April 26, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, Baton Rouge from 1:00 p.m. until religious services begin at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Janis leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and James Howze of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Carol Copenhaver Boyle and Michael Scott Boyle of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Kelly Copenhaver, Terri Copenhaver Kelley and son-in-law Devin Kelley, Jillian Monroe of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Zachary Matar of Houston, Texas; great grandchildren, Gavin, Brooklyn, Kaylee, Liam, Jared, Alyssa, Jordan and Brian, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by parents, Pearl Free and James Claiborne Terrell; husband, Harris Dewitt Copenhaver, Jr. and beloved son, Terrell Craig Copenhaver. Memorial donations may be sent to Broadmoor United Methodist Church, A-MED Community Hospice of Houston, Texas or Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area.
