"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27. Andrew "Andy" Huey Gasperecz, born October 31, 1928, in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana, was a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, since 1964 where he and his wife raised their three children. He left this world to be embraced by the Lord on Friday, December 27, 2013 surrounded by his family at the age of 85 years old. His sweet temperament positively affected everyone who knew him. His devotion to his family was without question. LSU football, Pensacola Beach trips, other trips around the country and world with his family and friends, and simple, quiet meals gathered with his family made him the happiest. He leaves behind his loving and caring wife of 59 years, Phoebe Ann Hedwiges Pierrotti; sister, Patricia Blocker; son, Albert Kirk Gasperecz, and his wife, Mamie Hanna Sterkx, of New Orleans; son, Andrew Kent Gasperecz, and his wife, Kathryn Shannon Graves, of Baton Rouge; daughter, Jeanne Melissa Gasperecz of Gainesville, Georgia; grandchildren, Jordan Leah (and her fiance, Ian McMills), Anna Brook, Albert Henry and Jesse Elise Gasperecz of Baton Rouge; grandson, Jackson Wynne Sterkx Gasperecz, of New Orleans; and granddaughters, Kathryn Belle and Ann Jolie Geyer of Gainesville, Georgia. He is predeceased by his father, Andrew Henry Gasperecz, his mother, Mary Violet Deville, his sister, Mary Violet Gasperecz Rowles, and his granddaughter, Acina Lauren Gasperecz. Andy served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. He received his Bachelor of Education from Southwestern LA Institute (ULL), his Master of Education from LSU, and his Radio Communication Certification from Coyne American Institute in Chicago. He taught at DeRidder High School and ULL. He retired as teacher to work at the LA State Dept of Education as a leader in career, industrial arts, technical and proprietary education. He worked for State of LA Superintendents of Education, under Bill Dodd and J.Kelly Nix. He served as President of Louisiana Association for Career and Technical Education from 1964-66 and was appointed as Chairman of the American Industrial Arts Student Association from 1970-71 by the Louisiana State Department of Education. Along with John O. Murphy, Jr. and John A. Dobbs under the direction of Thomas S. Derveloy, he prepared the following guide, which was published in 1972 by the LA State Dept. of Public Education: An Administrator's Handbook for Industrial Arts in Louisiana Schools. In 2010, Andy received the LA Veterans Honor Medal. Since 1964, he was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, where he also served as a volunteer at the Adoration Chapel for several years. The family wishes to thank all of the good people who helped Andy during his illness, including Dr. McCelland, Dr. Bonnecaze, Ms. Tate, Trig, and all of the good people at Amber Terrace Assisted Living, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, and St. Joseph Hospice (the Carpenter House). Any memorials or remembrances should be sent to the Carpenter House, 10615 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 in Andy's name. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave. Baton Rouge 70806, on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 from 9:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Online condolences may be placed at www.greenoaksfunerals.com.
