Anita Vanessa "Mama Nita" Turner

A native of New Orleans and resident of Baton Rouge, she passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. She was 50, a former Louisiana State Worker and a Car Sales Consultant. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m. Visiting continues Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at Gloryland Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Dennis Lawrence. Interment in Star Hill B.C. Cemetery, 12331 Powell Station Rd., St. Francisville. Survivors include her father, Wallace Lindsey; surrogate mother, Hazel Bell; daughter, Carolyn N. Hill; surrogate daughters, Kanithia Hills and Tamieka (Miguel) Matthie; surrogate son, Wilford Hill, Jr.; sister, Y'Shaka McClain; surrogate sister, Yvonne Guerin; brothers, Tony Brown, Melvin Smothers and Norman Lindsey; godbrother, William Hawkins, Jr.; surrogate brother, Damien Johnson; grandchildren, Brielle London Wright, Brenda and Nigel Matthie; and a special niece, Sarayah Leigh McClain. Preceded in death by her mother, Rev. Sarah Wilson; maternal grandparents, Albert Roach and Corine Dunbar; step-grandfather, Elijah Dunbar, Sr.; an aunt, Margaret Ruffin; two step-aunts, Loueinger Smith and Madlen Jones; and three step-uncles, Henry Dunbar, John Dunbar and Elijah Dunbar, Jr. She graduated from Zachary High School and Delta College, and attended Kaplan University.
