Big Bill, your were as close to being a surrogate dad to me as any man I've known.
You have been a part of my life for all of my 51 years...or at least as far back as my old brain will let me remember.
You took me hunting, fishing,to ballgames and a multitude of other fun activities. I shot and skinned my first squirrel with you. I learned how to clean fish with you and I developed an appreciation of Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show band from you.
One of my favorite gifts of all-time was my camo jacket you sent to me from Vietnam. I'm sorry for all you had to go through during that skirmish. I salute you for your service.
I also wanted to thank you for helping my maw maw, momma, aunt sis and me whenever we needed anything.
I spent many nights in your home and I always felt so welcome. I swear, I was the test run for you and Sis to have children.
Your were truly a character. You are the star of several of the funny stories that I still tell to this day. Anyone can ask me about the roofer, the Christmas party or the pasties and I will light up and give them a humorous account of the events.
My favorite memory of all is that you fathered two of the best first cousins a man can ask for. I love them more than I can express. I thank you for being a guiding light in raising them to be the great people they are and to be part of my family.
As I sit here grabbing for tissues to wipe away the tears of sorrow from my face, I wanted to tell you how happy I am that you helped make me into the man I am today.
Forget resting in peace, I want you to get to the pearly gates and be Freakin' like you were at the Freaker's Ball.
Love,
Tony Cooper
