Dr. Chad Hargon, 47, devoted man of God, dedicated husband and father, friend to all and caring and empathetic physician passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 16, at First United Methodist Church-Bain Hall. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 pm on Monday, July 17, 2017, at First United Methodist Church Shreveport with Dr. Pat Day officiating. A private family graveside will be held. Chad was a native of Shreveport, LA. He graduated from Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge and LSU Baton Rouge where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and Campus Crusade for Christ. He continued his education attending LSU Health Sciences Center – Shreveport where he obtained his doctorate of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency and Hematology and Oncology fellowship where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He was a member of First United Methodist Church-Cornerstone Class, where he was actively involved, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, the American Cancer Society, and the Shreveport Little League Board. He served on the Student Advising Committee at LSU-HSC. Chad's favorite past time was without a doubt being with his family. Chad loved coaching every sport for his three boys. Any chance he had at home was spent playing football, basketball, or baseball in his yard with his wife and children, the High Five as he liked to call them. Anywhere they wanted to go, he made it happen. LSU football games, Texas Rangers games, and of course the place he rested the best, Lake Ouachita. Chad was never a bystander. He was always "all in". He worked the score board at every basketball game and the chains at every football game. He coached from the dugout as well as the sidelines for every child on the team. He led father-son Bible Study at 6 am for years. From hunting with his boys to marshmallow man on the floor at home, he loved being a husband and father. His next greatest passion was his work. He loved every patient and it was evident by the time he spent with them. Never did he turn away a phone call from a patient or colleague. He prayed with his patients and for his patients. He climbed in bed with them and loved on them. He always said he learned more from them than he could ever give. What was important to Chad? Whatever was important to you, his friend. He never met a stranger and whenever Chad saw someone in need, it was his pleasure to provide for that need. He loved bigger and more generous than any man has. Dr. Hargon was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Hargon and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Terkuhle. He is survived by his wife, Stacey Free Hargon; parents, Lousie and Charles Geron "Gee Gee" Hargon, of Baton Rouge; three sons, Charles Geron Hargon III, Christopher Guy Hargon and Grayson Paul Hargon; sister, Shadley Hargon Gordon and husband, Bobby, of Swickley, PA and their children, Alex, Elsa and Mary Grace; sister-in-law, Ronda Trawick and husband, Steen and their children, Allison Grace and Graham; and father and mother-in-law, Margaret and Ronald Free. Pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Cooper, Paul Robertson, Robert Bowman, Fred Stephenson, Dr. Chip McDonald, Dr. Kevin Marler, Dr. David Googe, Dr. Jeffrey Gosslee, Danny McGowan and Mark Attaway. Honorary Pallbearers will be the teammates, coaches and families of his children's sports teams and his many patients and colleagues who taught him more than he ever learned in school. The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church School, the American Cancer Society or Young Life.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. Loved my favorite doctor. He was there for me and I can only wish I could have been there for him. I just found out today and it was so hard for me. I CAN ONLY SAY ,I HAD A SPECIAL LOVE FOR DR. CHARLES HARGON. HE WAS LIKE A SON, MORE THAN my DOCTOR.

Dr. Hargon was my wife's Cancer Doctor. She was in stage 4 colon cancer when he was brought into our lives.
Even though it was uncurable and only treatable at that stage, he took care of "us" with compassionate and dedication from our first meeting the very last. He prayed with us on each and every visit. He was totally honest and upfront with us, but he did it with some much compassion that it always made her feel like she could conquer this battle. He was a strong inspiration for me as well.
The Sunday that my wife passed, he was informed by the Hospice staff, I assume, but he called me that afternoon and prayed with me. He kept in touch with me for quite a while and a couple of years later, we ran into each other in the WK North dining area and he immediately recognized me and came over to see how I was doing.
I had to say all of this to let you all know what a caring and unselfish man he was.
May God be with his family and God bless him.

From the moment we met him in for breast cancer in June 2007 Dr Hargon was family. He took a hold of our hands and prayed for my mama and then he prayed for me as her caregiver. He saved her life three times. After the Breast Cancer he helped us through her Lung cancer and metastatic lung cancer. He treated us with care and respect as we navigated all the fears and uncertainty. He always had time for our questions and never failed to reassure us that no matter what happened he would be with us the whole way. So far mama is still cancer-free and I'm gonna take him at his word that he was with us the whole way. We are devastated that he is lost to all whose lives he saved and enriched. He will never be forgotten

Chad you will be missed by many.
I met Chad at a Bible study many years ago. He touched me as a very considerate, kind, humble man of God. I pray for you Stacy, you kids and all those he touched to be comforted and know that Chad knew God has a plan. He was my father's physician. I know my family will miss him greatly. Last time I saw him was in Sunday School. He mentioned an article in a medical journal that had a study showing how prayer increases a patients ability to become well. He was a giant I am proud to say I knew. Sleep on gentle giant. I look forward to seeing you some day. Love and Peace Trey Wynn

Stacey,
Upon hearing news of your loss of Chad, my heart breaks for you and your children. I remember how much Chad adored you in college! There are no words....we are lifting you & your children up in continual prayer. You may not remember me from LSU; I was a Chi O and close friend of Megan Angell's & moved to Shreveport for PT school after junior year. Steen & I grew up together in Monroe, as well. I too lost my husband very young with our 3 children ages 7, 11, & 12 at the time. Fraser was a neurosurgeon here in Baton Rouge & attened med school in Shreveport. I wish with all my heart I could offer you comfort during this excruciating time. Your faith will be tested & strengthened. When you are too exhausted to pray, your family & friends will pray for you & lift you up. People will ask, "How are you?", meaning well and not knowing what else to say. You may vow never to say those 3 words to anyone else for the rest of all time! Find comfort in your precious children, for in them, the very best of Chad lives on❤ Encourage open & honest communication between your children and yourself...you'll be amazed at how close & supportive you will all be for each other. Having experienced the loss of my husband at 40, I just wanted to let you know I'm here for you if you ever need to talk, vent, or need encouragement in the days to come. May our God grant you peace that surpasses all understanding❤

My heart breaks for the Hargon family. When I think of Chad in this moment I am immediately reminded of Matthew 25:23, WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT. I know that He is well pleased, and Chad was truly about his Father's business by sharing the gospel. My family was blessed to become friends/family with Chad over 10 years ago while our boys (Geron) played football for South Highlands Elementary. You could see his love for God by the way that he loved people. After years of friendship I never would have imagined that I would need him in a professional capacity. As he did with many others, he comforted me with the Word of God, and reminded me of His promises at a time that my faith was being shaken. Although Chad's life may seem like it may have been short lived, he has touched more lives than some can do in 4 lifetimes. Thank you Hargon family for sharing Chad with us and so many other! I pray that God comforts your hearts and gives you the peace the surpasses all understanding today and the days to come.

Dr. Hargon was my wife's doctor during her Battle with lung cancer. He always give Wendy positive thoughts, even when set backs cast a gloomy out look!
He was the First Doctor to offer Prayer with Wendy, myself and her loyal girlfriends. One visit, things were not going well so Charles gave Wendy a clinging cross! It was Always in our hands in during times of prayers and any moment of needed comfort!
I give it to my daughter during a
Serious time of illness in her life.
It became her spiritual crutch!
My daughters healing was a earthly blessing but my
Wendy's healing was Godly.

I am sending my deepest condolences to Chad's family. It was such an honor to work with Dr. Hargon as a float for Willis Knighton. I will miss talking football with him!! RIH

As a patient in 2006, I had many unknowns what was to be expected during this journey. Dr. Chad was sincerely compassionate and was concern of all my needs and family needs. He made me feel confident, but very truthful what was to come. When he prayed with my wife and I, I was taken back and have never seen a doctor do so. Not to mention that he made it clear that God was the ultimate Physician and God uses him as His instrument. From that moment on, I knew I was in the best place for care and treatment. Chad will always have a special place in my heart. You will be deeply missed and will see you in Heaven. My prayers are with the family during this tough time.

We are just so very sorry for your loss Stacy. Praying for God to hold you and the boys tightly. The image of Chad that immediately comes to mind is every Christmas Eve when y'all come to Broadmoor Methodist and y'all are walking up to communion and everyone in the sanctuary is so serious. Not Chad-he's got this big grin smiling and waving at everyone. So of course I smile and wave back at him like we are little kids cutting up in "big church!" That's the Chad I'm keeping in my heart. He was the epitome of "the joy of the lord!" Praying hard and often for all of you. Callie and William Hamm.

My heart is broken for your family and I am praying for everyone who love him and are grieving for him at this time. I am thankful that he taught me so much during several rotations together during school and residency. His easy going, come-what-may attitude was something I wanted to emulate. He was the only person in this world that called me Big E other than my father, even though he was every bit as tall as me! And later, he was the only doctor I wanted caring for my mother when she needed him most. He not only took care of her, but my family as well and I will forever be grateful. Thank you Dr. Hargon.

Dr. Hargon was such a blessing to our family. He won our hearts when he gave us much needed words of encouragement and had prayer with us on our very first visit with him. We could not have had a better physician or spiritual guide throughout our time with him. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. He kept us up to date with what was going on with you, his family. He loved you all so much. You are in our prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your sweet husband and daddy was such a blessing to so many people. He had a true servant's heart, and because of that many lives were improved and saved. We will always be grateful. He will be my friend and Brother in Christ eternally.
Stacy, I will continue to keep you, the kids, your mom and dad, Rhonda, and all the family in my prayers. I love y'all.

Dr. Hargon prayed with us the first time he saw Mom. Knowing that he was a Christian brought such comfort to us. When Mom passed away unexpectedly during her first chemo treatment he was grieving with us. I was with her when it happened and I personally witnessed his care and compassion. I know he did all he could. I never blamed him. He will forever be very special to me.
