Our beloved mother has gone to be with the Lord Jesus. Elly Van Slobbe McDonald joined the angels on February 21, 2014. Elly was full of energy and enjoyed spending time with her family. She recently visited her birthplace in Holland, where she spent a month with her brothers, nieces and nephews. Elly was well aware of her Lord, and her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace with her Savior. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, from 5pm until 8pm, with a Memorial Service at 7pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street. She is survived by her 3 sons: Gregory Huysmans and his wife Reiko of Japan, Dwayne Huysmans of Baton Rouge, and Anthony Huysmans of Dallas, TX; and 5 grandchildren: Joshua Huysmans of Baton Rouge, Hallie Huysmans of Dallas, Blaize Huysmans of Baton Rouge, Micah Huysmans of Japan, and Patrick O'Neill of Dallas. She is also survived by her sister, Margaretha Van Slobbe Catharino of Schiedam, Holland; 2 brothers: Ferdinandus, Wilhelmus, Wouterus Van Slobbe of Zierikzee, Holland; and Wouterus, Robertus, Maria Van Slobbe of Vlaardingen, Holland; and numerous nieces and nephews in Holland. There was not a time that you saw Elly that she was not smiling. She had a heart of gold and would give people the shirt off her back. I have has the pleasure of having the same grandchildren as Elly. P.J. and. Hallie. If we were getting ready to go somewhere she would want to give me her jewelry, makeup or blouses lol. Elly you will always be in our hearts and I know our special "Angel"!

I am so sorry to hear of Ms. Elly's passing. She was such a vibrant, lively, joy to be around. I was her neighborhood babysitter in Glen Oaks as a teenager and met up with her again in recent years. I really enjoyed getting to know her again and know her "boys" will miss her so. What a special lady!
