Frances Seal Jalenak of Metairie, Louisiana, died peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on December 11, 1935, to the late Mose Seal and Miriam Lewis Seal. Frances graduated Ramsey High School, and she attended the University of Texas. She was married to the late Jay M . Jalenak, Sr. on August 1, 1957. She was a longtime member of Temple Sinai in New Orleans and a regular volunteer advocating for consumers at Channel 8 Defenders. She enjoyed her weekly canasta and bridge games with her many friends. She cherished Thanksgiving, which was always remembered as her mother's birthday. She is survived by a daughter, Mimi Jalenak and Mimi's life partner, Kitty Atwood, of New Orleans; a son, Jay M. Jalenak, Jr., and daughter- in-law, Maia Free Jalenak, of Baton Rouge; and, two grandchildren, Jay M. "Jack" Jalenak III and Nina Claire Jalenak. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lee Helen Jalenak. The family thanks Frances's team of doctors and the staff of East Jefferson Hospital for giving her the health and strength to enjoy a wonderful final year with her family and friends before ultimately succumbing to her illness in peace. The family also thanks Frances's incredible network of friends who supported her through this trying time with love, compassion and transportation to treatments. Graveside services will be held in Hebrew Rest Cemetery Mausoleum, 2003 Pelopidas St., New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sunday, October 13 at 10:00 AM. with Cantor Joel Colman officiating. I am not in New Orleans at the present time, butI wish to extend my deepest condolences to Frances' family. She was a wonderful, delightful person, and I will miss her very much.
