Gertrude "Gert" Madison

A retired nurse's aide and a resident of Baton Rouge, she passed away at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. She was 91 and a native of Chicago. Visiting at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 5262 Prescott Road, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, Nov. 17, from noon until service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ronald T. Williams. Interment in Winnfield Memorial Park. Survived by daughters, Audrey (Clyde) Robvais, Millie (Roy) Roberts; son, Jerome (Sandra) Madison; 25 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchilden. Pre-ceded in death by her father, Nathan White Sr.; mother, Bessie Thompson White; sister, Rosa White; brother, Nathan White Jr.; three sons, Henry Bridges, Willie Hatfield, and Van Johnson Hatfield; daughter, Katherine Madison; aunt, Gertrude White; and uncle, Joseph White. Pallbearers will be Lamar Porter, Zoey Jones, Van Thompson, Charles C. Wilford, Sr., Deonta Decuir and Michael Goza. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Baton Rouge; Deaconess of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Baton Rouge; and Girl Scout Troops of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Baton Rouge. She was a graduate of St. Paul Adult Learning Center and a community activist for the Eden Park community with special services given to the D.A.R.E. program and various outreach services.
