Harold "Al" Haase, III, age 65, a resident of Zachary, LA, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at his home. Al dedicated his life to his family, country, community, and friends. Al was a veteran of the Vietnam War
, serving his country with honor in the U.S. Navy
from 1967 to 1971, later retiring from Georgia Gulf in Plaquemine, LA as a supervisor after 35 years of service to the company. Since his retirement in 2008, Al has thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with all of his grandchildren and especially his wife, Cathy. They were both active in the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), where Al was known under the name Oliver Loving and was a repetitive winner in shooting competitions throughout the country. Al and Cathy loved being the best dressed, most historically accurate cowboy and cowgirl around. His passion for the old west was driven by his love of history and its influence upon how we live our lives today. He was an avid hiker and spent the last few years of his life enjoying the outdoors, hiking many trails throughout the country and challenging himself to conquer as many mountains as his time on Earth permitted. Among the highest of his enjoyments, was his participation in gatherings with his grandchildren, where he reveled in getting in trouble for being the noisiest kid there. Through his service in the Navy, Al demonstrated his commitment to his country and the core freedoms that we all stand upon. As a husband, he demonstrated his enormous capacity for love and the selflessness of his soul. As a father, he instilled in his children his determination of will and his depth of compassion. As a grandfather, he taught humor, mischief, and an embellishment for living life to its fullest. As a friend, he would lend a hand to anyone who needed it - and in doing so, he inspired us all to be better friends to each other. In his 65 years with us, Al made our world brighter in his presence and our love for life and our neighbors that much stronger. Al is survived by his wife Cathy, daughter and son-in-law Dawn Haase-Davis and Billy Davis, daughter Deanna Haase, daughter and son-in-law Glynna Haase Siegler and Ed Siegler, son Mike Perry and fiancée Laurie Scott, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Simone Perry, and daughter Melissa Kelly.
