James D. "Jake" Abbott

James D. "Jake" Abbott, 87, of Wabasha, MN died February 22, 2013. Jake was a graduate of St. Thomas Military Academy, the College of St. Thomas, and the University of Minnesota. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He owned and operated Abbott-Wise Furniture and Funeral Home until his retirement in 1989. Jake was an active member of St. Felix Catholic Church and the Wabasha community, receiving the Bishop's Medal for his volunteerism and dedication to his church in 2005, and the Distinguished Citizen's Award from the City of Wabasha in 2009. His wife, Anne Flahavan Abbott preceded him in death in 1973. Survived by sons, Robert (Kathy), of Baton Rouge, James (Claire), Joseph, Matthew (Mary), and Thomas (Elizabeth); daughters Anne Cecilia (Jack) Bullemer, and Kathleen Abbott Bailey; 13 grandchildren, including James Marien Abbott of Baton Rouge, and 9 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, March 1, 2013 at St Felix Catholic Church with the Reverend Monsignor Thomas Cook officiating, and co-officiating, the Reverends Eugene Abbott, Joseph LaPlante, Milo Ernster and Robert Meyer. Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center Foundation, Wabasha, MN.
