John Cushman "J.C." Brown Jr.

A Minister for the Church of Christ for 44 years, John Cushman Brown, Jr., age 74 passed away at his residence Sunday, December 30, 2012. He was a native of Baton Rouge and a resident of Central. A graduate of Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge and Atlanta Christian College, his service as a minister of the Gospel includes churches in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. He was the minister of the Central Church of Christ in Baton Rouge for 27 years. He was also retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. An accomplished artist all his life, his paintings and drawings grace art collections in many states. During his ministry he was active in many civic and ministerial organizations. He is survived by his wife; Margaret Brown, 2 sons; Yancy Brown and his wife Christy of Grovetown, GA. and Mike Brown of Baton Rouge, daughter; Tracy Michelle and husband Frank of Gonzales, a brother; Danny Brown and wife Cheryl of Baton Rouge, grandchildren; Ashley Laster and husband T.J. of Augusta, GA., Amber Bates and husband Jonathan of Augusta, GA., Lori Hebert and husband Adam of Gonzales, Anthony Michelle and Dominick Michelle of Gonzales, great-grandchildren; Hailey Hebert and Peyton Hebert of Prairieville, Timothy Laster, Thomas Laster and Helen Laster of Augusta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents; John C. "Pete" Brown, Sr. and Anna Mae Van Osdell Brown. Visiting will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East 11000 Florida Blvd. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and Friday, January 4, 2013 from 10:00am until funeral services at noon officiated by Bro. Will Tramel. Eulogies will be offered by fellow minister and life long friend, James Redmon and his brother Danny Brown. Burial will follow in Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary LA.
