John H. Hilton, M.D., FACE, 58, of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on August 2nd, 2013 at his river house on the Tickfaw River. Dr. Hilton was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on December 5th, 1954 to Edith Brame Hilton and Charles Winston Hilton. After graduating from University High School he attended Louisiana State University
where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. While there, he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Alpha Fraternity where he was awarded several scholarships. He then attended Louisiana State University Medical School-New Orleans. Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. Hilton completed an internship in Internal Medicine at University Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology at University Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. While in training, he met his wife, of 29 years, Joanne Natale Hilton. Dr. Hilton and his wife Joanne enjoyed their lifetime together with their two sons, Austin and Chase Hilton. His years were spent traveling the United States and abroad with his wife and sons. He had a strong love for the outdoors and natural scenery. He brought his love of nature to his own home and backyard sanctuary. Dr. Hilton was passionate about his family, National Parks, beaches, and hard work. He was an avid boater, slalom skier, hiker, mountain biker, kayaker, gardener, and photographer. In addition, he was an ardent handball player, winning various competitions and the state championship. Dr. Hilton had an undying thirst for knowledge and expanding his horizons. Stemming from his father's musical career, he had a love for both music and Louisiana State University. Dr. Hilton loved his field of medicine and was dedicated to his practice, employees, and most of all, his patients. He practiced medicine at the Baton Rouge Clinic for the past 28 years, where his patients valued him for his compassionate calming, and intellectual nature. He was a well-respected member of the American Medical Association, the Louisiana State Medical Society, East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society, and was a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinologists. Dr. Hilton was preceded in death by his father, C.W. Hilton and his mother, Edith Brame Hilton. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Hilton, his two sons, Austin Hilton of Royal Oak, MI and Chase Hilton of Baton Rouge, LA; sister Daphne Hilton Toney, husband Mark of Baton Rouge; brother Charles Hilton, MD and wife Deborah Hilton, MD of Slidell; mother-in-law Rose Natale; sisters-in-law Linda Natale and Diane Palmer and husband Harry; brother-in-law Francis Natale; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives from across the United States. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6th at Rabenhorst Funeral, 825 Government Street, from 5pm to 8pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, August 7th at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Boulevard in Baton Rouge from 11am until Funeral Service at 1pm.
