Joseph A. Sabatier Jr., M.D.

Dr. Joseph A. Sabatier Jr., age 98, a native of Iota, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Arch Group Home, New Orleans. He was one of three founding partners of The Baton Rouge Clinic and he practiced surgery in the city thereafter until 1967, when he was appointed to head the Regional Medical Program for Louisiana, based in New Orleans. Then, in New Orleans, he returned to medical practice at West Jefferson Hospital, retiring in 1987. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survived by his brother, Eugene Paul Sabatier, of Eunice; sons, Dr. Richard E. Sabatier and William G. Sabatier; grandsons, Richard E. Sabatier Jr. and James Sabatier; and stepdaughter, Laurie D. Molnar; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Joseph Sabatier, and their son, Gordon Robert Sabatier; and his second wife, M. Joyce Joseph Sabatier, Barbara's older sister. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Tulane University Medical School Department of Surgery or the Sierra Club. Respecting his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Interment will be in Port Hudson National Cemetery.
