Joseph Louis Acosta

ACOSTA, JOSEPH LOUIS A resident and native of Donaldsonville, he died at 2:55 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2004, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was 70 years old. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Donaldsonville, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Donaldsonville, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, celebrated by the Rev. Michael Galea. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Thelma Cavalier Acosta; two daughters and two sons, Vickie Acosta and husband Louis Blanchard of Sugar Land, Texas, Neil P. and wife Pattie Nobile Acosta of Gramercy, Mary Acosta and husband Brent Chaisson of Cut Off and David J. Acosta of Dublin, Ga.; a sister, Miriam Acosta Medus; five grandchildren, Marti and Jeremy Blanchard, Lindsay and Chloe Chaisson and Quinn Acosta; three stepgrandchildren, Candace, T.J. and Blake Millet; and a great-grandson, Bryant Blanchard. He owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Donaldsonville for 28 years and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of Babin-Haynes American Legion Post 98 and was exalted ruler of Elks Lodge 1153. He served as past president of the Donaldsonville Rotary Club from 1966 to 1967 and Donaldsonville Chamber of Commerce from 1967 to 1968. He was an avid fisherman. Preceded in death by his parents, Nara and Bertha Acosta; two brothers, Honore and Claude; a son, Louis Joseph Acosta; and a granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Acosta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rouge. Special thanks to the community of St. Francis of Assisi Church for their prayers, love and support.
