Joseph Riley Nelson, Jr. was a loving and kind individual. He was born on May 14, 1943 and died on Sunday evening, March 9, 2014. Riley was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He was a graduate of Catholic High School in Baton Rouge and Louisiana State University with a degree in Industrial Technology. He had a long career as a data specialist, beginning as a Systems Analyst at TJM Corporation and Systems, Inc. He later became owner of Management Accounting Systems, was the Data Processing Manager for Wright & Percy Insurance and for nineteen years was the owner and Computer Specialist for Database Computer Services. Riley leaves behind his beloved wife of twenty-nine years, Kay, and five wonderful daughters, Shannon Bienvenu, husband Bryan; Sheri Engeron, husband Greg; Sharon Jones, husband Rob; Caroline Ross, husband Stewart; and Julie Vascocu, husband Jerry. He loved and was so proud of his eight grandchildren: Riley Catherine Bienvenu, Grace Bienvenu, Whitney Engeron, Walker Marie Engeron, Andrew Joseph Jones, Warren Ross, Jake Vascocu, and Virginia Vascocu. Riley also leaves behind three brothers, Michael Nelson, wife Charlene; Patrick Nelson, wife Julia, and Shawn Nelson, wife Dawn; sister-in-law Marilyn Mullendore and brother-in-law, Clyde Stanfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Riley Nelson and Marie Bonnette Nelson and his first wife, Lynda Robinson Nelson. The family would like to thank the staff members of LA Hematology and Oncology for the excellent care that he received, especially Dr. Derrick Spell and Dr. Bryan Bienvenu, and well as the staff at Mary Byrd Perkins, especially Dr. Charles Wood. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, Baton Rouge on Tuesday evening, March 11 from 5-7 pm. Visitation will continue at Rabenhorst Wednesday morning, March 12 from 10 – 11 am, with a memorial service following at eleven am. Interment at Roselawn Memorial Park, 4045 North Street, will follow the service. For those so desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Riley's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Mary Byrd Perkins Cancer Center, Baton Rouge.

I often think of the many evenings we all spent together. Linda was a lucky lady to have found Riley, and I know how much he loved Kay. Praying for the Peace which passes ALL understanding until you are all forever reunited.
