June Grace Blevins Walker

June Grace Blevins Walker (Mrs. Myron A Walker) died Tuesday, Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2012, at her home in Baton Rouge. Born in Deming, NM, April 10, 1918, she moved with her parents to St. Francisville at the age of 6 months. She was raised on Pauline Plantation there, which remains in the family today. June graduated with honors from Julius Freyhan High School, and then attended Southwestern University (UL) in Lafayette, LA. Following college, she was employed by the Tidewater Oil Company where she remained until she married Dr. Myron A. Walker, a native of Houma, LA. While in Lafayette, she was chosen queen of the Camellia Pageant, as well as queen of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the city of Lafayette. Upon moving to Baton Rouge in 1944, June enjoyed membership in the EBR Medical Auxiliary, as well as in the Junior Book Guild, and a garden club. Sewing and creating beautiful clothes were her passions. She enjoyed traveling to almost all of the continents of the world. Along with her husband, she was a former member of the City Club, the Baton Rouge Country Club, Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Charity Ball Association of Baton Rouge, and an active member of the parental organizations of both St. Joseph Academy and Catholic High School. She is survived by five children: Myrna Walker Hall and husband Dr. Howard Hall of South Dartmouth, MA, Bonnie Walker Holliday and husband James Holliday, Susan Walker Levasseur and husband Alain Levasseur, Myron (Mike) A. Walker, Jr. and wife, Rebecca Causey Walker, all of Baton Rouge, and Dr. Mary Wendell ""Wendy"" Walker Schofield and husband Dr. Carl Schofield of Nashville, TN; sister, Pauline ""Polly"" Westphal and husband Frederick; 13 grandchildren: Susannah Kavanaugh Wilkins, Andrew Kavanaugh, W. Tommy Heflin, Col. Kristin Heflin McCoy (Col, USAF), Kendall Heflin, Stephanie Levasseur Devaney, Christophe Levasseur, Gordon Elliott Walker, Andrew Blevins Walker, Elizabeth Acklin Walker, Stephen Norsworthy Schofield, Benjamin Michael Schofield and Katherine Grace Schofield; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Grundy Blevins, sisters, Mabel Blevins and Bernice Blevins Osterberger, her husband, Dr. Myron A. Walker, and 2 grandchildren, Marie Helene Levasseur and Eric Levasseur. Visitation will be Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with visitation continuing Monday, December 31, 2012 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial in Roselawn Memorial Park.
