Larry Luster Obituary

Larry Luster, 70, passed away on April 9, 2018 in Baton Rouge, LA from a stroke. Larry was born in Nashville, Tennessee to William Clark and Frances Sharp Luster, both of whom predeceased him. Larry graduated with the class of 1965 at Father Ryan High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville and earned his Master's degree in Education at Delta State University. Larry was a special educator for more than 30 years, teaching and reaching students with emotional and behavioral problems. He retired as a special educator with the East Baton Rouge Parish school system. He will be remembered for many things, including his quick wit and love of Louisiana culture – food, fairs, and festivals, in particular, and life. He enjoyed sports, especially Southern Miss Golden Eagles and Tennessee Volunteers football teams. Larry gave of himself, volunteering for a range of civic, sports, and church activities. He is remembered by many as always making them laugh. Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jane Nell, daughter Amy McIver (Bob), and grandson Cayden. He is survived by his four siblings - sisters Mary Jo (Buddy) and Ginger (Mike) and brothers Clark (June) and Michael (Lauren). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. A church service will be held on June 16, at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church on Morning Glory Avenue. There will be visitation with the family in the Common Room at the church from 2:10 until the time of the service. Memorials donations in Larry's honor may be given to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center (Baton Rouge), Trinity Episcopal Church, or Father Ryan High School (Nashville).

Jane Nell, So very sorry for the passing of your sweetheart. Larry was a special educator and and special person. I know when are loved ones leave us, they are never far away. Hoping you'll find some comfort in the love and memories your heart will always hold onto.
