Lawrence Joseph "Pops" "Larry" Hicks Jr.

Mr. Lawrence Joseph "Pops" "Larry" Hicks, Jr, 76, beloved husband of fifty-six years to Mrs. Eleanor Burnett Hicks, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 10th, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Baton Rouge, LA, he was a son of the late Lawrence Joseph, Sr. and the late Josie Rose Mareno Hicks. In 1954, during his junior year at Baton Rouge High School, he enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves and remained active in the Reserves until 1962. He attended Louisiana State University where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was a Construction Superintendent with Bechtel and retired after twenty-seven years of service. Larry enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and Cajun cooking. More than anything however, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He had lived in Boyertown, PA for over twenty years, before coming to Aiken County in 2005. He was a former volunteer Paramedic. In addition to his wife and parents, family members include children, Cam (Coleman) Elaine Hicks Miles, Aiken, SC, Cassie (Bill) Cecile Hicks Cleaveland, Mesa, AZ and Lawrence (Sheryl) Joseph Hicks, III, Aiken, SC; siblings, Caroline (Gerald) Ann Rogers, Lake Charles, LA and the late Wesley Rand Hicks, grandchildren, Lawrence Joseph Hicks, IV, Aiken, SC, Camille (Mark) Dorothy Miles Rosier, Aiken, SC, Amanda Jean Hicks, West Lawn, PA, LTJG Wilson (Leigh Anne) Coleman Miles, III, Aiken, SC, Kate Cecile Cleaveland, Mesa, AZ and Cordis Colt Cleaveland, Mesa, AZ and a great-grandchild, Abigail Elizabeth Miles, Aiken, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, March 13th, 2013, at 3 o'clock at Pine Forest Baptist Church, Langley, SC, with Pastor Ron Doss officiating.The United States Navy Honor Guard will provide veterans honors. It has been requested by the family that memorials be made to Pine Forest Baptist Church, 2829 Pine Log Rd., Langley, SC 29834 or the .
