Layton Leroy Bankston, Jr., born May 20, 1941 in Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of Zachary, LA, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the age of 70 at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA. Per his request, his remains have been donated to the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army who served in Vietnam and received the United States of America Medal of Military Merit. He was preceded in death by his parents, Layton Leroy, Sr. and Rita Monson Bankston along with five brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Dees Bankston; three sons and daughters-in-law, Layton and Jennifer Bankston, Jersey City, NJ, Brian and Kelly Bankston, Baton Rouge, and Brandon and Dawn Bankston, Zachary, and five grandchildren, Kyle, Karlyn, Brianne, Brennan and Bailey Ann Bankston. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia B. and Dale Richard, a brother, Benny Bankston and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Alison Dees Tarver. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Thompson, Dr. Campo, Lane Hospital, Cardinal Hospice, and the wonderful staff of Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Zachary United Methodist Church Youth Hall located at 4205 Church Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org.
