Mary Evelyn McKernan Kinamore, 76, peacefully passed away on Friday August 15 at her home in Jamestowne Court in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She had a wonderful life and it was centered on her faith, family and friends. "Mem" as she was known by all was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother and faithful friend. Mem was unique, one of kind and she had a bigger than life personality that touched many people. She will be dearly missed by her husband, family and friends. She is survived by her husband Joseph William Kinamore; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Tara McKernan of Baton Rouge, Gordon and Shannon McKernan of Baton Rouge, Bill and Dru McKernan of Baton Rouge; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Jim Scala of Baton Rouge and Jean Ann and Burton LeBlanc of Baton Rouge; step-sons and step-daughters, Byron and Danette Kinamore, Samuel and Debra Kinamore of Baton Rouge; step-sons Francis and Sherrie Kinamore of Baton Rouge and David Kinamore of Delray Beach, Florida ; and preceded in death by step-son Joseph Kinamore and step-daughter Ann Marie Kinamore. She was blessed to be the grandmother of sixteen grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Jo Jo McKernan; Morgan, Taylor and Hayden Scala; Maggie, Lauren, Lilly and Julia LeBlanc; Riley, Meredith, Charlotte and John Gordon McKernan; and Cody, Cade and Courtney McKernan. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Jane Ball Johnson and Charles Gordon Johnson, her brother, Charles Gordon Johnson, Jr. and her first husband Jerry McKernan. She was a graduate of University Laboratory School and attended Louisiana State University where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority. She was a member of University United Methodist Church, Study Club, Dance Club Les Saisons, Tri Delta Alumni Association, Morning Callers, and numerous bible studies. She loved playing and teaching bridge (especially on cruises) as she was an accomplished Bridge player and Life Master. She also loved to travel the world with her husband. She had a life-long passion for cooking and food and was in the beginning stages of compiling a cook book of her favorite recipes. In her youth she was a counselor at Camp Gulf Park and an avid swimmer. Mem and the entire family would like to thank all of her doctors, especially Dr. Andrew McWhorter and Dr. Mike McCarthy, nurses and caregivers who attended to her. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, and on Tuesday, August 19 at University United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge, 3350 Dalrymple Dr. from 9:30a.m. until funeral services begin at 11:00a.m. Pall bearers are Morgan Scala, Cody McKernan, Taylor Scala, Cade McKernan, Jo Jo McKernan, Hayden Scala and John Gordon McKernan. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Baton Rouge and University United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge. "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another to toward love and good deeds." Hebrews 10:23-24.

We will always remember Mary Evelyn for her enthusiasm for life, outgoing personality and general "joie de vivre". It was so much fun to be in her company and we have enjoyed knowing her husband and children. We regret that we won't be with you for the celebration of her life.
