Matthew Joseph Carruth, a native and resident of Wilson, Louisiana followed his momma home on Sept 9, 2017 at the age 37. Matthew worked as an electrician for Loop Mechanical. He was an electrician by trade but carpentry was in his DNA. Matthew believed in God and country and loved his momma more than anything in the world. Being the last of five born cemented his being everyone's baby throughout his life. Matthew was not "a little sticious LSU fan, he was a SUPERsticious LSU fan!" Jo-Jo loved his Tigers with every fiber of his being and was a home game regular whether he intended to go into the game or just wander campus and take in the atmosphere until the band and his Tigers made it down the hill. Matthew was an avid traveler by any means necessary and was always up for adventure. He found his happy place on the beaches of Mexico, from snorkeling with sea turtles in Akumal to diving off Pelican Rock in Cabo. Matthew's love and respect for the game of golf made him a walking ambassador for the sport. He accomplished an ever elusive "hole-in-one" on April 15, 2017. It is safe to say he is as excited about it in this moment as he was the day it happened! Matthew's momma often referred to him as the "Dog Whisperer" and not without reason. His kind heart was not just reserved for friends and strangers but greatly extended to every animal in his presence. It was not unheard of for Matthew to be found at ground level with any dog that crossed his path. The world lost a beautiful human being who went out of his way to make everyone in his company feel safer than even he felt himself. The simple act of Matthew entering the room had a way of putting people at ease and making them more comfortable with being themselves. For more reasons than can be counted his very essence will be deeply missed. Matthew was preceded in death by his beautiful mother, Yancey Floyd Carruth and his grandparents. Matthew is survived by his soulmate and significant other of 18 years, Melody Bennett and their two fur babies, Crockett and Beckham; his father Ancil A Carruth Jr; his siblings and their spouses, Stacey and Mark Foretich, Mark and Christine Carruth, Marlon and Lori Carruth, Yancey Ann Carruth; and his adored nieces and nephews, Gavin, Ethan, Andrew, Josh, Kennedy, Macie, Jennifer, Hayes, Cannon, Elijah, Eden, Bentley, Noah, Ellie and Sawyer. Matthew voiced his wish to be cremated and have his ashes spread across the beaches of Mexico that grounded him in life, and so shall it be! A Memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept 15, at the First Baptist Church of Wilson, with visitation from 9 am - 11 am. In celebration of Matthew's life and in keeping with his intense love for all things LSU, wear your purple and gold!
