Raymond Otis Taylor passed away into the arms of Jesus, August 3, 2017 in Baton Rouge, LA. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Ethel Robson Taylor, daughter Carrie Ayers (Craig) of Baytown, TX, son William Walker (Christiana) of White Hall, MD., sister Linda Harrell of Marshall, TX, sister-in-law Betty Daigrepont (James) of Middletown, KY, brother-in-law Marvin Robson of Evergreen, LA, and grandchildren Katherine and Sarah Walker, and Christopher Ayers. Ray is also survived by many friends and extended family, who will cherish their unique memories of him and their times together. Ray was born August 15, 1938 in Marshall, Texas. He graduated from Marshall High School where he played football and baseball. He was a graduate of SFA University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He worked for NCR Corporation for 33 years. An avid sports fan, Ray served as a mentor to many youth when he officiated LSU Track Meets for over 30 years, and served on the LSU Track and Field Board. Ray was a faithful Christian, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, in-law, brother, uncle and friend. A courageous seven year battle with AML did not diminish Ray's faith, wit, humor, and kindness which were trademarks of his character throughout his life. His generous spirit will continue as a donor to science at LSU Medical School. In lieu of flowers, donations to benefit AML patients in Louisiana, can be made to: "The JL Foundation" at 21223 Waterfront East Dr., Maurepas, LA 70449. A Memorial and Celebration of Ray's life will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., Jefferson United Methodist Church, 10328 Jefferson Hwy, B.R., LA.

Memories and Condolences
for Raymond Taylor

Not sure what to say?

Ms Taylor and family, though we're never met please accept my deepest condolances for the loss of your beloved Ray. Though I had only known him for just over 2 years, I had come to really enjoy his company at early morning coffee gab fests at the YMCA. He was one of the nicest and most congenial people I had ever known. I'm so sorry that our friendship could not have lasted much, much longer. He was a true friend.

I worked with Ray for many years at NCR. Later Ray joined our Breakfast Group at Frank's. He was a good Christian man.

Please accept my deepest condolences. I worked at NCR with Ray back in the 80s and have only fond memories of him. May the Lord comfort you during this very difficult time.

Mr. Ray was such a nice man. I enjoyed having coffee with him and Mr. Mike everyday at the YMCA. Of course, it has been a few years, but I will always remember his smile. Wishing his family peace and love.

To Ethel and family,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Ray's passing. He was a great guy, a loyal classmate, and a devoted friend.

I knew he was ill but was hoping that his doctors were having success in beating this terrible scourge that took him away.

Ray is going to be sorely missed by all of us in the Marshall High School Class of 1956. Counting him as a friend was something special. I will miss the jokes he sent via e-mail. They were something to look forward to each time I opened my electronic mail box.

Ray's life was one of success, not only for his professional and educational achievements and triumphs but because he had the East Texas smarts to recognize a jewel when he met and married Ethel, a lovely girl who was a perfect wife to him. Together, Ray and Ethel brought outstanding children, each one a model citizen, into the world.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Ray was a true friend. He was never without a smile. He could remember the names of young athletes. And would always order a hot dog for breakfast! We will miss you Ray.
