Rene Chedraui, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the age of 82. He was born in San Salvador, El Salvador and a long time resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Rene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. He came to Baton Rouge in 1952 to attend LSU and studied Architecture. During his time at LSU, he met and fell in love with Johnnie Faye Rogers who became his wife of 52 years. Professionally, Rene was an Architect and had his own firm, Rene Chedraui & Associates and by serving in all municipal positions through the years as the State Fire Marshal, Baton Rouge DPW Building Official and Director of Architectural & Engineering Services at LA DHH. Rene enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going fishing and playing cards and bingo. He was a devout Catholic and member of several national and local organizations including the AIA. Rene worked at Kaiser Aluminum, Esso Oil, Dyer & Moody, and Arkel International. Rene is survived by his daughter, Eva Wilkinson and son-in-law Ronnie; sons, Rene Chedraui, Jr. and wife Liz; and Dennis Chedraui and wife Sandra; five grandchildren, Rene Christopher Chedraui, Brittany Chedraui, Amanda Wilkinson, Alexander Chedraui, and Jessica Chedraui; and two brothers, Alfredo Chedraui and Maurico Chedraui. Preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Faye Rogers Chedraui;, his parents, Siad Tannus Chedraui and Eva Siade de Chedraui;, and brother, Antonio Chedraui. Visiting at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, 16166 S Harrells Ferry Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 9:30 until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30, conducted by Father Tom Ranzino. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Rene Christopher Chedraui, Carlos Kuri, Kenny Sandifer, Keith Sandifer, Raul Urdiales, and Michael Hedges. Honorary pallbearers, Buster May, Nick Blanc, Saleem Sabagh, Danny Kinchen, Jim Bass and Chuck Taylor. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Carpenter House St. Joseph Hospice, 10615 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70809 or to the American Cancer Society, 10528 Kentshire Ct., Baton Rouge, LA 70810. i am shocked to find the obituary of my dear friend .Weworkdtogetherat Ddyer& Moody in Baker, La in the years 1964-1968. I was hoping to find him to spend sometime together.
My best wishes to his sons, daughter and family for this tragic loss. I am in Laplace, La at my daughter's place and remember good times. He was truly a great architect, wonderful friend and team player.

Eva, Rene, and Dennis - So sorry for your loss. When I saw your dad in November he looked really good. Our dads now have a new place to go fishing.

So sad to read obituary this AM while waiting for my daughter on xrays, would have been there. A funny memory of Rene is his coming in the house and insisting on leaving the same way out. My prayers for Dennis, Evia, Rene Jr. and your family.
