Roland Christophe Sr.

"Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God; believe, also, in me." John 14:1. Roland Christophe Sr. was born Sept. 12, 1925, to the union of Raymond and Martha (Pierson) Christophe. On Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, he peacefully transitioned from this life and received his promse of eternal life with our Lord. He was 88, a native of Plaquemine, a resident of New Roads, and a U.S. Army veteran. He was baptized in 1960 by the late Rev. E.D.B. Reed at Zion Travelers Baptist Church where he served faithfully as Head Deacon. Visiting will be held at Zion Travelers Baptist Church, False River, Monday, Nov. 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Van Smith Jr. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 56 years, Eliska A. Christophe; two sons, Roland (Valerie) Christophe Jr., Plaquemine, and the Rev. Datis (Wanda) Christophe Sr., Moreauville; a daughter, Bridget (Kenneth) Louis, New Roads; 8 grandchildren, Bennyfer Bridgewater, Eric Christophe, Rolanda Sajna, Alyssa Christophe, Datis Christophe Jr., Ebony Christophe, April Louis and Kelly Louis; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, LeRoy Christophe; two sisters, Gloria Christmas and Veola Anthony, all of Plaquemine; 10 sisters-in-laws, five brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, Raymond, Clarence, Herman, Charles and Lionel Christophe.
