Samuel Anthony "Buttie" Distefano Jr.

"Buttie" passed away on Wednesday, January 8 at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center due to complications of Parkinson's disease. He was 75 years old and a native and resident of Plaquemine. A retired Media Center Coordinator with the Iberville Parish School Board, he was a U.S. Army veteran. Visitation will be at Wilbert Funeral Home in Plaquemine on Saturday January 11, 2014 from 8am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 11:15am, celebrated by Rev. Gregory Daigle. Interment in Grace Memorial Park. Survived by his mother Lillie Engolio Distefano; wife of 50 years Lucille Leggio Distefano; sons Michael M. Distefano and Paul B. Distefano; sister Polly Distefano Higdon and husband Johnny; grandchildren Chantel L. Distefano, Michael Matthew Distefano Jr and Julianna M. Distefano; brother in law Dr. Vincent Leggio and sisters in law Gertrude Leggio DeLouise and Mary Virginia "Toody" Leggio. Preceded in death by father Samuel Anthony "Prof" Distefano; brother in law Dr. Anthony Leggio, Jr.; sister in law Maria Leggio Toups. Pallbearers will be Matthew Distefano, Marc Distefano, Tony Leggio, Daniel Distefano, Patrick Cancienne, III, Steven Engolio, Troy Tempanaro and Hunter Markins. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark DeLouise, Dr. Vincent Leggio, Dr. Frank Distefano, "T-Joe" Distefano and his card playing buddies, Bob Martin, Robbie Dupont, "Country" Ruiz, Anthony Pizzolato, Johnny Higdon, Danny Williams, Brian Romero, Mark Dantin, Martin Miranda, Van Junot, Leonard Gauthreaux, Charles Delapasse, Ed Hargrove, Gorden Gregoire and Billy Case.
