Stuart Winthrop Wooddy, age 84, died on April 6, 2013 at his home. He was born in New Orleans on March 13, 1929 to Edith Brierre Wooddy and Nelson Stuart Wooddy. In 1950 he graduated from Tulane University with a BA in History. He was a member of the Boston Club and a Duke in the Rex Court of 1952. He moved to Pointe Coupee Parish in 1961 where he had spent many happy summers as a child riding horses and swimming in False River while visiting his aunt and uncle in the "country". He married Betty Challen in 1963 and they restored five historical properties in Pointe Coupee including the LeBeau house, his home. He also assisted with the restoration of the Pointe Coupee Parish Museum. As an active member of the community, he was on the vestry of St. Paul's Holy Trinity, made several medical mission trips to Honduras, and was a member of the Rotary Club of New Roads. As founder of False River Realty, he specialized in locating and negotiating the sale of antebellum properties for the purpose of restoration. These included Chez Coteau, Jean Baptiste Bergeron House, Valverda, Lakeside, Le Jeune House, Northbend, C.O. Watts House, P. V. Rougon House, Gosserand House, Mason Chenal, Bayou House, Little House, and Cavilier Oaks. He was a member of the the Greater Baton Rouge Board of Realtors. He is survived by his wife Betty, two daughters Elisabeth Brierre Wooddy and Catherine Challen David, son-in-law Joseph Ronald David, Jr., and six grandchildren; Elizabeth, Andrew, Joshua, and Nicholas David, Lindsey and Carter Ray. A memorial service will be held at Saint Paul's Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 607 East Main Street, New Roads, LA on Saturday April 13th at 11AM, visitation at 10AM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Arts Council of Pointe Coupee, St. Paul's Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, or Pointe Coupee Hospice.

Mr. Wooddy was our landlord, for a few years. We leased a camp at False River from him. He was a fine gentleman and we always enjoyed our visits with him.

Betty and Family,
I was sorry to hear of your loss, but knowing our eternal destination is made sure, gives great comfort. It's been so many years since we have spoken with you, but we always have fond memories of you and Stuart and the girls from the days we lived in Lakeland. We will be praying for you during the days to come. That God will give you His peace.
