Tommy Leonard Smith Sr., 83 years old of age living in Hammond, Louisiana, passed away, Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Live Oak Village in Hammond. He was born on Monday, October 7, 1929, in McKinney, Texas, son of the late Leonard G. Smith and Lillie May Massey Smith. He was a member of the United States Army and served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He also had a 35 year career in the railroad industry beginning with the Kansas City Southern Line Railroad Company, he was appointed in 1979 the first State of Louisiana Railroad Inspector. He ended his career with the Federal Railroad Administation in the late 90's. Mr. Smith was also a 32 degree Mason. Surviving are sons Tommy L. Smith Jr., daughter Neysa Smith Gremillion and son, Darryl Smith and wife Sharon, 6 grandchildren and brother Tim Smith of Baton Rouge. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Mary Peggy Bueche of Bueche Louisiana. There will be a service at Holy Ghost Catholic Church beginning @ 9:30 am Thursday, February 28 for family and friends. Mass will be held at Lakeland Catholic Church in Lakeland Louisiana on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at the False River Memorial Cemetery. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. It was a honor to have know such a wonderful and kind person and also the best neighbor you can live by. I will always cherish all those memories he brought to me and my family. You will be missed and may god bless you and your family.

Extending condolences to Tom's family on your loss. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with him on some local projects. Tom will be missed as he was a true southern gentlemen. You remain in our thoughts and prayers.
