Jeremiah O'Keefe Obituary

Heartfelt condolences from the Tiernan family to the O'Keefe family. My Dad (John) and Jerry were squadron mates in the Marine Corps, and Dad always spoke fondly of Jerry.

Mr. Jerry will be missed on earth but he will be welcomed addition in the Kingdom.

My husband and I fondly remember, and never forgot, the "Mayor of Biloxi, Mississippi". He was introduced to everyone on our cruise ship, the Costa C in 1979 in the Caribbean. We vividly remember him wearing a large cowboy hat and was very gracious. The wonders of the internet have allowed us to read with much enjoyment about his colorful life, and to appreciate his military career - a true soldier. Please accept our condolences - our prayers are with you all.

Reading the NYT obit, I thought, "I like this guy." As I read on, it began to jog my memory until I got to your name. Then "I KNOW this family!" He was quite a man. My condolences to all of you and especially you, Pat, and Sam.

Having had the privelege of knowing Jerry for many years, it's hard to know where to begin. We have lost a true icon of the Greatest Generation. Though we have not seen him recently, we have memories that we will cherish. There never was a more generous individual and he will truly be missed. Mr. O'Keefe was one of the most genuinely nice, sincere people I ever had the honor of knowing. I had the privilege of growing up with his grandchildren and Mr O'Keefe always had a big smile on his face, welcoming you always in to his home. Every time I saw him in his later years, he always asked about Katie and her children and always remembered me. What a wonderful man and a wonderful human being. The world truly lost a great soul!! Biloxi won't be the same without him.

Mary and the rest of the O'Keefe family, I was saddened to hear of your Father's passing. Your Dad was a very good man, who I always enjoyed visiting with.
