Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at an 11:30 AM Service in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel for Albert Lynwood George, 85, who died on Friday, September 6, 2013 surrounded by his family. His health diminished over the last 10 to 15 years, culminating with a stroke in April 2012 and he spent the remainder of his life in the Cornerstone Village South Nursing Home. Reverend Sam Brooks of Open Door will officiate the services. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 65 years, Ernestine Bowen George; two daughters, Lynwood George Creswell and Ginger George Adams; three sons, David Bowen George, John Michael George and William Paul George; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and one brother, Alfred Louis George. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bryan and Rooney Rabalais George; one brother, David Lloyd George; and one sister, Marie George Lamb. Al was born on January 18, 1928 in Alexandria, Louisiana. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ernestine Bowen George; his brother, Louis George; his five children, daughters, Lynwood George Creswell and her husband, Tim. David Bowen George and his wife, Jan, John Michael George, Ginger George Adams and her husband, Charlie and William Paul George and his wife, Jo. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Todd Granberry and his wife, Jennifer, Debbie Granberry Tabchouri and her husband, Elie, Julie George Bryant and her husband, James, Philip George and his wife, Sarah, Elizabeth George, Kathryn George Arthur and her husband, John, Allison George Galioto and her husband, Nick, Emily George Rapier and her husband, Jim, Stephanie Presley and her husband, Todd, Joshua Adams and his wife, Carla, Abigail Larsen and her husband, Matt, Taylor George And Chandler George. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren, with three more due before the end of the year. Al graduated from Winnfield High School in 1944, and went to Louisiana State University on a football scholarship. He graduated from LSU in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and also served as 2nd Lieutenant-Ordinance in the ROTC. Albert worked for Humble Oil & Refining Company (now Exxon) until 1956 when he moved to Lafayette to work for Lamb Rental Tools, Inc. as an engineer where he developed several patents while employed there. In 1966, Al began his own business, George Equipment and Engineering in the garage of his home. The business grew and became Al George Inc. During the 1970's and 1980's, Al began several other businesses as a result of equipment he developed. Monosep, Inc., Slingshot, Inc., Sidewinder Pumps Inc. and Crawfish Technologies were among these businesses. In 1986, he sold Al George Inc. to two of his sons, David and John. In 2011, his two sons, David and Paul, purchased Sidewinder Pumps, Inc. Al belonged to the American Petroleum Institute, Society of Petroleum Engineers, National Fluid Power Society, and Acadiana Manufacturer's Association. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. He served as the Director-District 7, LSU College of Engineering Alumni and also on the Board of Directors of the Lafayette Petroleum Club. Al served as "LAGCOE Looey" in 1989. He was a Deacon and a dedicated Bible study/Sunday School teacher, and sang in the Church choir. He worked with the Boy Scouts and volunteered with the Salvation Army. Al loved to dance and for many years he and Ernie could be found on the dance floor of the Petroleum Club on Friday evenings. He was a loving father and delighted in his grandchildren who will all remember, "The Cookie Tree." Pallbearers will be Robert Todd Granberry, Philip George, Joshua Benjamin Adams, William Chandler George, Elie Tabchouri and John Elliott Arthur VI. The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE Location on Monday, September 9, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 from 9:30 AM until time of services.
