Bernard Malone Obituary

A native of Bunkie and a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at the age of 75, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Visiting will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Thursday, September 5, from 11:00am until religious services in the chapel at 2:00pm, conducted by Brother Eldon Crifasi, burial immediately following at Roselawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Gerry St. Germain Malone; his three children and her three children, all six of whom they shared, Bernard L. Malone, III and wife Brenda; Cynthia Malone Hunt and husband Jerry; Elizabeth Malone Troia and husband Carl, Sr.; Myles D. Schexnayder; Todd P. Schexnayder and wife Melissa; and Lisa Schexnayder Perdue, M.D. and husband Paul. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Sophia and Chloe Malone; Timothy, Alexandra and Jacob Hunt; Carl Troia, Jr. and wife Amy; Rose Guagliardo and husband Corey, and Mary Troia; Aaron Schexnayder; Fletcher and Marie Perdue; and his two great grandchildren, Mia Troia and Louis Troia. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Marti Blasco Didier, and a host of long-time friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael David Malone; and his parents, Bernard Louis Malone, Sr. and Cecilia Roccaforte Malone. He was born on December 10, 1937. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University College of Engineering and Louisiana State University Law School, 1959 and 1973, respectively. He was an Attorney for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and retired in 2000. He will be remembered for celebrating his life with enthusiasm. He loved creating family memories and taking family vacations, especially RVing, dirt bike riding, skiing and traveling abroad. He enjoyed traveling with his grandchildren and supporting their activities and interests. His generosity toward family and others was overwhelming. He had a strong love for the outdoors and natural scenery. As an avid dirt bike enthusiast, he was a long-standing member of the Breezy Hill Enduro Club. Among his fondest memories was being awarded the "Best Enduro of the Year" in 1994 and spending countless hours preparing for future enduros in an effort to duplicate this achievement. He was recognized for his outstanding service by receiving many awards, including a "Life Membership Award" in the Southern Enduro Riders Association in 1985 and the "Distinguished Service Award" in 2002. He was also a lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association. In his younger years, he enjoyed piloting single-engine airplanes with his friends. He was a long-time Amateur Radio Operator and member of the Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club. His love for the theater led him to volunteer many hours at the Baton Rouge Little Theater, until his health prevented him from doing so. His proudest accomplishment was receiving the "Best New Volunteer Award" in 2001. He was passionate about introducing people, especially his family, to theater and musical performances. He was an accomplished pianist and saxophone player; and a proud member of the Louisiana State University Tiger Marching Band and participant in the Alumni Band for several years. He was inspired by his wife's volunteer efforts for St. Vincent de Paul's Uniforms for Kids Program, which captured his heart and led him to develop a passion for his own volunteer interests in the program. He was recognized in 2004 for his continuing support and countless hours of dedication to St. Vincent de Paul's Uniforms for Kids Program. Pallbearers are Jerry Hunt, Carl Troia, Sr., Myles Schexnayder, Todd Schexnayder, Carl Troia, Jr., Timothy Hunt, Jacob Hunt and Aaron Schexnayder. Honorary Pallbearers are Roger Bailey, David Breedlove, Kline Davis, Ray Dry, Aubrey Hair, Ralph Kratochvil, Paul Perdue, and Tom Tarver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul's Uniforms for Kids, P.O. Box No. 127, Baton Rouge, LA. 70821. Please sign our online registry at www.rabenhorst.com.

My apologies Gerry for typing Mary Lee. I guess I was just thinking about all the times "you girls" (you Mary Lee, Nelda, Barbara) had and were so gracious to include me in some of them. I am truly sorry for your loss.
