Carl Nelson "Peano" Rushing, a native and lifelong resident of Watson, LA, passed away in his home on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014. He died peacefully at age 79 surrounded by family. Mr. Rushing was born on December 12, 1934, in Watson on the family farm, where he also spent his final days. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adrain and Merril Rushing and his brother Jimmy. After graduating from Live Oak High School and LSU, he was commissioned a U.S. Marine Corps Captain, and founded many well known businesses in the Watson community. He and his four sons helped establish the District 4 Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lifelong member of Live Oak United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards and committees. Mr. Rushing was a dedicated Bible scholar. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 59 years, Patricia Morris "Pat" Rushing, sons Perry and wife Melanie, Joel and wife Jill, Dana and wife Jodi and Lane and wife Jean. He is also survived by grandchildren Shelby and wife Young Kim, Ryan, Travis and fiancé Lauren Callon, Molly, Sarah, Sammi, Victor and Julia, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as "Pop" to his family, as a surrogate father and grandfather to many and for his charity and humor to all who knew him. "Behold, sons are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate." - Psalm 127:3-5. The family will hold a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Live Oak United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Live Oak United Methodist Church in memory of Carl N. Rushing. Special thanks to his many doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Bahij Khuri, M.D., Dr. Amin Kamyar, M.D. and Dr. Naseer Khan, M.D.

I am a manager at Oak Point in Watson. I was so heartbroken to hear of Mr. Peano's passing. He was such a beautiful spirit with a heart of gold. We will miss his bright smile and his friendly conversation. I am keeping the family in my prayers and close to my heart.

I always felt like Mr. Peano looked out for me when I moved "back" to Watson. I'll never forget when I brought the seven unexpected puppies of my Catahoula up to the station and asked if he would help me give them away. Of course he said yes. Loved and will miss Mr. P.
