Doris Balfantz Mitchell died Monday, March 17, 2014, at her home. She was 79 years old and a lifelong resident of Maurepas, Louisiana. She graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1956. Visitation will be held at Maurepas Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, from 9:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am in the church, conducted by Dr. Glynn Reine. Interment will follow at Maurepas Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edward Mitchell, Sr.; her children, Edward Mitchell, Jr. of Maurepas and Tonya Mitchell Smith of The Woodlands, TX; her grandchildren, Leigh Mitchell, Kennedy Smith, and Camden Smith; one great-grandchild, Kaleb Mitchell; her sisters, Lynette Bovia and Kathy Reine; and her brothers, Carol Balfantz, Alton Balfantz, V. J. Balfantz, Stanley Balfantz, and Johnny Balfantz. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Edna Balfantz; and her brothers, Billy Balfantz and Albert Balfantz. Mrs. Mitchell was a retired school teacher and a member of the Nova Stella Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Ponchatoula, LA. A guest book is available at www.harrymckneely.com.
