On April 23, 2014 we lost a real hero in our life, Edwin Rene Hughes. He now rests from a hard battle with cancer. May God rest his soul and embrace his presence as we rejoice his life. He was at peace with this world and knew that he was loved by us all as we felt the same from him. Our "sweet Eddie Hughes" will be forever missed by his family and friends. Edwin Rene Hughes was born April 4, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Thomas R. Hughes and Renee M. Blancq Hughes, who died after childbirth. He was lovingly raised by his father and beloved step-mother, Virginia Rose Leheay Hughes. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Thomas R. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Peggy Spinks Hughes and children, Daniel Kendrick, Thomas and Tessie Kendrick, Karen Kendrick, Renee and Gary Gilette, Jean Brinkman, Nancy and John Dudley, and John and Silvia Hughes. He is also survived by eight wonderful grandchildren, sister-in-law Doretta Hughes as well as five beautiful nieces and nephews. Edwin graduated from Jesuit High School in 1954 in New Orleans, La. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Germany. He attended Indiana University graduating in 1960 and continued his education at Tulane University Law School, graduating in 1963.
