Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. James Arthur DeWitt will be held at 1:00 pm., Monday, June 9, 2014, in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville, with the Reverend Lloyd Whitman officiating. Interment will follow in Dry Prong Cemetery. Pallbearers honored to serve will be Alex Hodnett, L. R. "Pop" Hataway, R. J. Bolton, Brandon Chandler, Jeffery DeWitt and Elray Lemoine. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Cox, Winston Pace, Tommy Harrison and Paul Smith. Visitation will be Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Hixson Brothers, Pineville from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and will continue Monday from 11:30 a.m. until service time. Mr. DeWitt, 86, of Dry Prong, passed from this life Thursday, June 05, 2014, at Sunrise Assisted Living at Siegen, Baton Rouge. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Dry Prong, founding member of Dry Prong Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 50 years member of the Woodmen of the World, and a pillar of the Dry Prong Community. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Tarter DeWitt; his parents, James Arthur DeWitt, Sr. and Lillie Frazier DeWitt; brother, Dudley DeWitt; sisters, Melba Turner and Katherine Harbour. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Martha DeWitt Hodnett and husband Phillip and grandson, John Alexander Hodnett. The family has designated for memorial contributions to be made to the , P. O. Box 96011, Washington DC 20091-6011.
