James S. (Jim) Heyward, a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, passed away at his home on December 27 at the age of 92. Jim is survived by three sons, James S. Heyward, Jr. and his wife Candice C. Heyward of Leawood, KS, Andrew A. Heyward of Seattle, WA, and Daniel N. Heyward of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a brother, Robert Heyward of Wilmington, NC. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years, the former Lilburne McDade of Elm Grove, LA, and his second wife of 25 years, the former Wilda Neal Bradshaw of Liberty, MS. One of seven children, Jim grew up in Goldsboro, NC and graduated from the University of North Carolina after serving four years in the Army Air Corps. Jim flew over 70 missions in the European Theater of Operations during WWII, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. Jim and his wife moved to Baton Rouge in 1947 Jim in 1991 after a long career as General Manager of Dolese Concrete Co. After retirement Jim stayed busy by extensively documenting family genealogy, organizing senior golf trips and tournaments, volunteering as an office manager for the Cajun Clickers Computer Club, and performing charitable work including preparation of tax returns for senior citizens and helping surgery patients at Baton Rouge General Hospital.
