Joe Glen Kennedy, 83, of Sandy Hook Mississippi, died October 14, 2013. He was born to the late Monroe and Allie Berry Kennedy, October 14, 1930 in Walthall County Mississippi. He graduated from Dexter High School April 12, 1948 and joined the Air Force. He married Nancy Josephine Reitan of Waubun, Minnesota, August 1, 1951 in the state of Maryland. He retired from the Air Force on June 30, 1968 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Soon after that he served as Computer Center Manager at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Ultimately, his dream was to return to the Mississippi countryside where he was raised. He realized that dream in 1974 upon taking a job as a Computer Instructor at the Northshore Technical College in Bogalusa Louisiana until retiring, July 1991. As long as his body would carry him, he loved to participate in church activities, hunt, and fish, garden, can vegetables and even became a pretty good cook. He loved his family dearly, was a good friend to many and faithfully served his community. Joe is survived by his wife Nancy, two children: Daniel M. Kennedy, and Kathleen M. Kennedy; three siblings: Bonnie Sumrall, Patricia Holmes and Jerry Kennedy. Two brothers have preceded him in death, Denver and Elton Kennedy and one sister Clara Kennedy Seals. He also is survived by 7 grandchildren Melissa Christin Kennedy, David Monroe Kennedy, Rachel Elizabeth Kennedy Sgroi, Eric Reitan Kennedy and step-children Lisa Carpenter, Konstyantyn Morozyuk and Leeza Manning. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren: Maxwell Monroe Kennedy, Darek Nathaniel Kennedy, and Dominic Kennedy Sgroi.
A viewing will be held from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, October 18th and Saturday, October 19th from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Zion Lutheran Church, Bogalusa Louisiana. There will be a brief viewing and burial service at the Briarwood Baptist Church Cemetery, Stateline, Louisiana.
