Lawrence Delaune Obituary

Lawrence Joseph Delaune, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. He was 89 years of age and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was the son of the late Ernest Samuel Delaune, Sr. and Margaret Hebert Delaune. He was born on September 16, 1924 in Patterson, LA. He graduated from Ponchatoula High School, and then served in the Army 25th Division Reconnaissance Troop in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Upon completion of his military service, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Engineering at Louisiana State University, and then his Master's degree at MIT. He was married to the late Kathleen O'Connell Jones Delaune for 63 years. He worked for Exxon Research and Development Laboratories for 36 years, served others through the Food Bank at Sacred Heart Church, was very active in the Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus for many years and tended to the poor, sick and displaced. He was also preceded in death by his brother Ernest Delaune, Jr., sister Eulah LeBlanc, his son-in-law Major Harold Reeves, Jr., USMC. He is survived by his children: Kathleen (Kitty) Heidingsfelder, Elizabeth (Judy) Reeves, Margaret (Muffin) Smith, her husband, Daniel Joseph Smith, and Lawrence (Joey) Joseph Delaune, Jr., his wife, Katy Powell Delaune, and his sister-in-law Mary Helen Potts Jones. "Papa" will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: John Heidingsfelder, Jr., Eric Reeves, Lauren H. Birch, Jared Reeves, Jennifer H. Traore', Chrysta R. Cox, Patrick Reeves, Sarah R. Brown, Jeanie S. Robert, Kathie Smith, Danny Smith, Bobby Smith, Audrey Delaune, Sammy Smith, and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and by many beloved friends. Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 10:00 AM, Father Miles Walsh will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street after 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7:00 PM. Visitation on Monday, November 18, 2013 after 9:00 AM until Service time at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2250 Main St, Baton Rouge, LA . Interment will follow after services in Roselawn Memorial Park, under the directions of Rabenhorst Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Joseph's Academy and Catholic High School. Sign the online condolence book at www.Rabenhorst.com.
