A Chemical Engineer, Michael J Dagani, age 75, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He died at home peacefully on January 1, 2013 surrounded by his family. He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1958. He received a BS from San Jose University, a phD in Chemistry from Arizona State University, and a Post Doctoral Fellowship from the University of Wisconsin. He received an MBA from Michigan State University in 1981. A native of San Mateo, California, he worked at Ethyl Corporation as a Director of Chemical Research and Development from 1968 until his retirement in 1992. As a chemist at Ethyl, he held numerous patents and had multiple publications. He was involved in the early research and development of the drug, ibuprofen. A voracious reader and a fast walker, he could often be found walking around the LSU lakes. He was a caring and compassionate husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Colleen Dagani. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol Dagani, a daughter, Michele Lobitz, and a grand-daughter, Valeria Colleen Lobitz. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Ann Coulter, a step-son, John Allen, and two step-grand-daughters, Carolyn and Cathryn Coulter. We want to thank the nurses and staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their excellent care. At his request, no service will be held. Donations can be made to St. Joseph Hospice in his memory.
