A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 18, 2013, at 10:30 am in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Owen John "O.J." Provost, 79, who passed away November 14, 2013 at his residence. Father Tom Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Phyllis Simar, organist, and Julie Broussard, vocalist, will perform, "Take My Hand, Precious Lord", "America The Beautiful", "Battle Hymn Of The Republic", "One Bread, One Body", and "Surely The Presence Of The Lord Is In This Place". Treese and Mike Demitz will be the gift bearers; lectors will be his granddaughters Bethany Petersen and Jassy Demitz. Interment will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Eva Dell Provost of Scott; one daughter, April Leurault of League, Tx.; two step-daughters, Vicki Petersen Moras (Ralph, Jr.) of Lafayette, and Peggy Naquin (Andy) of Lafayette; two step-sons, Mike DeMitz (Treese) of Lafayette and Jack Cormier (Julie) of Lafayette; 14 grandchildren, Jassy DeMitz, Lucus DeMitz, Rachael Bennett, Sarah Bennett, Rebecca Bennett, Jayci Cormier, Collin Cormier, Aimee Petersen Schnabel, Leigh Petersen Rachel, John Petersen, Bethany Petersen, Andree Naquin, Nikki Naquin, and Maurie Naquin; one half-sister and one half brother; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, the former Lula Olivier and Owen John Provost, Sr. and the couple who reared him, Alvin and Bernice Dugas. O.J. was a native of Franklin and resident of Scott for the past 60 years. He served his country honorably as a United States Marine during the Korean War. He was the owner /operator of Dugas Pest Control of Baton Rouge and Lafayette for many years. He enjoyed fishing and camping, and was a member of the Bass Fishing Club, Rotary Club, Lafayette Boat Club, and the RV Camping Club, "C'est La Vie." Pallbearers will be Mike DeMitz, Luke DeMitz, Louis Hill, Ryan Maloney, Johnny Thibodeaux, and Charles Domingue. The family requests that visitation be held Sunday, November 17th, from 3:00 - 7:00 pm, and resume November 18th at 9:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be prayed Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank his caregivers Rose Foster, Jody Guillory and Jennifer Hall.
