Paula Ann Ferrara Blackwell passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 8th at the age of 60. After a short, but well fought battle with cancer, she found her way into a Peaceful Kingdom. Daughter of the late Anthony Joseph Ferrara, sister to the late Frank Anthony Ferrara and niece to the late Joseph V. Armato and late Richard A. Ferrara, Paula leaves behind many, many loving family members. She is survived by many including; her loving husband of more than 33 years, Peter Hickman Blackwell and their two boys, Benjamin and Kevin; by her mother Anna Armato Ferrara, her Uncle Salvador Ferrara and his wife Yvonne; a niece Pamela Anne Ferrara; her cousin Richard Ferrara and many, many more of her large Italian family. Born and raised in New Orleans, she moved to Metairie at the age of 16 to spend the rest of her years there. She would become a nurse, a wife, a mother and then return to school at Tulane University, graduating with honors, at the age of 50 to earn more degrees. She would spend her final years working for the Jefferson Parish Government as a Floodplain Manager, where she worked tirelessly searching for grant money to help Jefferson Parish residents and their families elevate their homes. She loved her family most of all and always kept them first. She had a passion for sports, especially the New Orleans Saints. She will always be loved and missed as we keep her near and dear to our hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 3:00 pm.
