Raymond Martinez Obituary

"I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." Our dad went to be with the Lord and Savior on April 18th, 2014 after 79 amazing years. Also known as "Rock", a resident of Baton Rouge; native of White Castle. Dad, you had the hands of velvet and steel, the definition of true unconditional love. You were the foundation of what a family should be and we will forever live life by the example you set for us. He leaves to cherish his memory, his three sons, Raymond Martinez & wife Mary, Steve Martinez & wife Kim, David Martinez & wife Lisa; one daughter, Terrie Martinez; seven grandchildren, Ashley Valenti, David Martinez, Chase Martinez, Blaze Martinez, Blake Martinez, John Ervin II and Bailee Martinez; six great grandchildren, Jaxon, Jhett, Aydan, Asher, Mason and Kade; three sisters, Shirley McNemar, Duddie Bourg and Ethyl Morris; in-laws, Clyde and Barbara Morgan, John and Glenda Stubbs, David and Jeanette Hancock, Clyde Morgan, Larry Morgan, Iris Wheeler and beloved friends dear to him like family. Preceded in death by the love of his life, Clydine Morgan Martinez; parents, Adam and Lucille Martinez; sisters, Isabelle Kling, Evelyn "Bud" Barnett, Janice Smith; brother, Adam Martinez, Jr; and brother-in-law, John "Red" Bourg. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp, in the Korean War receiving a purple heart. He was a proud member of American Legion Post 38 and member of the VFW. He retired from Holsum Bakery and Louisiana AFL-CIO. After retirement, he became the owner of Mats n Frames for 15 years until his beloved wife became ill. He made a promise that he would take care of her and that he did. Pallbearers will be David, Chase, Blaze & Blake Martinez, John Ervin II, Clyde Morgan, Benjamin Chapman and Mark Chambers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sonny Woodall and Craig Martinez. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Monday, April 21, 2014 from 5:00-9:00pm, the Rosary will be recited at 6:30. Visitation will resume at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 1:00pm-2:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Funeral procession to final resting place with graveside services at Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers; memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice. The Martinez family would like to give special thanks to Mark & Christina Chambers and family for their kindness, compassion and loving care given to our dad.

Dad, you have not been gone long, but I have a huge whole in my heart. I know you are just having the time of your life being back with mom. I will keep blowing you and mom kisses always. You are both deeply missed but I know I have the best two angels watching over me. I will forever hold the teaching you have taught me in my life and I know you could see your funeral and I pray you were smiling ear to ear. You had the best dad because you were the best. We sent you out as one PROUD MARINE. FOREVER IN MY HEART YOU AND MOM WILL BE. Hug my mom and tell her I love her. Your baby girl Tee.

Ray, Steve,David and Terrie
So sorry to hear of your dads passing. Mr Curly was such a wonderful and sweet man. He and Mrs. Claudine were much loved. I knew he and your mom had that special kind of love that could not be broken and the deaths of your parents in such close times only goes to prove this. May you rejoice in the glory of your memories and know that the kindness they showed everyone will make it impossible for them to ever be forgotten.

Love to you all,
