He was a retired journalist and professor at LSU. Robert was a native of Detroit, Michigan and a resident of Baton Rouge. He died at 9:30pm Saturday, March 01, 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 87. Robert was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WW II, with The Stars & Stripes European Edition. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, Friday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Visitation will resume Saturday at St. George Catholic Church from 9:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, conducted by his son, the Rev. Alec Sheldon. Entombment will follow at St. George C. C. Mausoleum. He is survived by his wife: Janet Sheldon; daughter: Mary Armstrong & husband Norman; sons: The Rev. Alec Sheldon, Luke Sheldon & wife Pavica, and Jeffrey Sheldon & girlfriend Anna Zemlyanova; his sister: Dolores Appleton; his brother: Stanley Sheldon & wife Arlene; granddaughter: Anna Armstrong. Robert received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Michigan. He was a member & past Commander of American Legion Nicholson Post #38; and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Zachary Taylor Post #3784. An online guest registry is available at www.rabenhorst.com
