Robert W. Dardenne Obituary
66, a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native, died in St Petersburg, Fla., on October 17, 2013. A 1964 graduate of Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge, and a 1968 graduate of Louisiana State University, Bob began his career as a reporter at the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate. He went on to work at newspapers and magazines in Mexico, New York, and Washington D.C. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Bob earned his Master's degree from the University of Florida and his doctorate from the University of Iowa and for almost 30 years was a journalism professor, at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. In 1999-2000, he taught at Shanghai International Studies University in China as a Fulbright Scholar. Bob was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife Barbara O'Reilley, their son Robert, and a large extended family of friends and former students around the country, and the world. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held in Baton Rouge on Saturday, October 26 at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway. Visitation will start at 1 p.m., with a service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Robert Dardenne Memorial Fund, University of South Florida St. Petersburg.
