Roosevelt Bowers, loving husband of Sonja Walker Bowers, father and grandfather, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at his home. He was 61 and a native and resident of Baton Rouge, LA. He was a Lee High School 1969 graduate. Enlisted in the United Sates Marine Corps July 1969 with the position designation of Field Radio Operator and musician, earning the rank of Lance Corporal. Attended Southern University. Loved his family. Faithful and devoted member to his church. Enjoyed volunteering with several organizations. Avid fisherman. Harmonious singer and love for music. NRG Power control room operator for 32 years. He is survived by his wife, Sonja Walker Bowers; mother, Elizabeth Smith Bowers; daughters: Giselle Hamilton, Tabatha Alexander (Gregory), Kirsten Bowers; son, Darwin Bowers; sisters: Vanora Robinson, Maureen Johnson (Charles), Cynthia Brown (Paul), Laquitta Bowers, Charlotte Bowers; brother, Darryl Fredrick Bowers (Jean); grandchildren: Brianna Gray, Kristian Bowers, Jasiah Sanders, William Bradford; mother-in-law, Elthea LeDuff. Preceded in death by father, Frank P. Bowers; sisters: Cybil Beachump, Ora Ward; brother, Freddie Bowers. Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wilson-Wooddale Funeral Home, 1553 Wooddale Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 11, 2013 at noon at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 3912 Gus Young Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Rosary prior to Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Port Hudson Veteran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers/plants, please consider a donation in Roosevelt's name to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church building fund or St. Vincent de Paul.
