Roy D Mitchell, 88, of Amite, LA died June 9, 2013 at North Oaks Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wheeling, LA to E D and Lula Luther Mitchell. He graduated from Atlanta High School in Atlanta, LA. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master's from Louisiana State University. He served his country during WWII in Operation Overlord landing in Normandy with Company K, 116th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division. He was twice wounded in combat by German forces, was captured and became a POW in Germany then liberated at the end of the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star. He served as 1st Lieutenant in the Korean Conflict as an artillery trainer. He began his career in 1948 with LSU Extension Service. He was past president of the Amite Kiwanis Club, past president of LA Association of County Agricultural Agents. He received the Distinguished Service Award for Extension Agents. He served on the Board of Directors of the Red Stick Ex POW's. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Amite. He is survived by his six children and their spouses; Deborah O'Shee and husband, Jerry, Denham Springs, Linda Tycer and husband, Dwain, Tickfaw, Alan Mitchell and wife, Kelley, Monroe, Ronny Mitchell and wife, Louise, Richland, WA, Janet Mitchell, Amite, and Jason Mitchell and wife, Jessica, Denham Springs; fourteen grandchildren, Leslie Burley and husband, Brent, Houma, Shaun Tycer, Denham Springs, Jeremy O'Shee and wife, Nicki, Denham Springs, Chad Tycer and wife, Sarah, Houston, TX, Heather Mitchell, Richland, WA, Jenny Pastore and husband, Roger, New Orleans, Adam Mitchell and wife, Caley, Seattle, WA, Ashley Pittman and husband, Alex St. Thomas, USVI, Trey Tycer, Tickfaw, Guy Mitchell and wife, Mandy, Richland, WA, Kevin O'Shee, Denham Springs, Caleb Sharp, McKenzie Mitchell and Jackson Mitchell, all of Denham Springs; great grandchildren, Luca, Sydnie, Mitchell, Hayes, Cannon, Nicholas and Lola; sisters-in-laws, Louise Mitchell, Lafayette and Hazel Kreeger, Shreveport; numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Genia Vaughn of Amite. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Erline McCoy Mitchell; parents; brothers, Guy and John Mitchell; sisters, Linnie Shelton, Leckie Jennings and Lottie Moss. Pallbearers are Shaun, Chad, and Trey Tycer, Jeremy O'Shee, Adam Mitchell, Brent Burley, Roger Pastore, and Caleb Sharp. Honorary pallbearers are Guy Mitchell, Kevin O'Shee, Jackson Mitchell, and Alex Pittman. Visitation will be held at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6pm until 9pm on Tuesday and from 9am until time of service at 11am on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Conducting services will be Rev.
