Adelaide Cazayoux Bondy passed away peacefully at her home in New Roads at 6:45 AM Monday, December 11, at age 93. A native of Baton Rouge, she married David Bondy Sr. in 1949 after graduating from LSU. The couple moved to David's hometown of New Roads. "Laddie," as she was lovingly known by her family, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her faith and her devotion to family defined her throughout her life. She and her beloved husband had six children, 17 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Her love of children extended beyond family to the hundreds of children she taught during her career as a school teacher. She began her career in 1949, teaching at many area schools including Rougon, Poydras, Morganza, and St. Joseph's Academy of New Roads. While her own children were young, she shared her talents and love of childhood education with children of the community at "Miss Bondy's Kindergarten." Her classroom was in the den of the family home. Her pupils sat at two long tables and benches built by hand by her devoted husband, David. Her many former pupils still remember the letters of the alphabet hanging from the window blinds around her "classroom." She then went on to teach English at False River Academy. Her former students still cite her uncanny ability to command respect and discipline while displaying love and an overriding desire to teach and improve the lives of each of her students. Adelaide was a long-time active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, serving in various ministries such as CCD teacher, Eucharistic Minister to the sick, and Adorer at St. Mary's Perpetual Adoration Chapel. She was a member of clubs and organizations within the community including the Pointe Coupee Book Club. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Peter Goodman, and Emily and Scott Smith; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jeanie Bondy, Jim and Kim Bondy, Matt and Mary Dale Bondy; and son-in-law Dana Kindy; grandchildren, Trent, Clay, Christian, and Hays Bondy, Kelli Troutman, Nanette Kindy, Katie Bates, Colin, Erin, and Gretchen Goodman, Adrian, David, Julia, and Jenna Smith, Adrienne and Audrey Roussel and Ashley Douet; great-grandchildren Charles, William, and Blair Bondy, Olivia Troutman, and Kathy Bates; brothers Dr. Robert V. Cazayoux, Rev. Clair M. Cazayoux, S.J. and Dr. Francis T. Cazayoux; and nineteen nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her loving husband David John Bondy Sr.; daughter Nancy Bondy Kindy; parents James and Inez Cazayoux; sisters Olivia O'Connor and Vivian Cazayoux; and brothers James Cazayoux Jr. and Brother Cosmas Cazayoux, S.C. I was one of Ms. Bondy's kindergarten students and she was also my 7th grade English teacher at FRA. The thing I remember the most was that you never ever said the word "AIN'T" in her class because if you did you had better find it in the dictionary. She was a great teacher. Praying for the family.
